In recent years York is really beginning to set a high benchmark when it comes to showcasing its creative side. There are so many great initiatives in the city, however, we all must continue to push boundaries to enable us all to create further opportunities.
We hear so many stories from creatives in the city who feel they need to move 'down south' to access opportunities in the fashion industry. We're here to change that perception so that we keep talent in the area.
We feel so strongly about supporting the next generation of industry experts.
Along with our two universities, York has a number of colleges and schools that have students passionate about the fashion who are looking at routes into the industry - and we are actively working alongside our education partners and its students to help them achieve this.
We want to support those who are looking at exploring their ideas through the creation of their own brands.
YFW have a number of initiatives and shows available to independent designers and brands that will help create opportunities to showcase their collections and to network with other creatives in the city.
We also support grassroots designs with introductions to industry professionals and those with expert services.
We feel that YFW, local authorities and key stakeholders in York have a joint responsibility to help nurture creativity in the city.
We are actively working alongside York BID, Make It York and other initiatives in the city to ensure that we reach everyone who is looking to showcase creative work is able to access a wide range of opportunities.
