The fantastic students of East Riding College joined us at the Student & Graduate Runway Show earlier this month to debut their latest collections.
The Second Year Degree students studying the Level 5 Higher National Diploma in Fashion developed a collection of garments inspired by cavaliers in the 17th century, combined with the complexity of modern-day fashion. A handful of designers followed the route of sharp, traditional tailoring, whereas others opted for flamboyant dresses with extravagant fullness and ruffles.
The final 3 looks we saw hit the runway had been designed by the college’s First Year BTEC Level 3 Fashion students. This project was inspired by modern architecture, with fashion icon Iris Apfel being the dream muse of this collection. The designers took into consideration future fashion trends and predictions for the up coming season, all whilst designing garments in line with Iris Apfel’s vibrant aesthetic.
Studying at the hub of the East Riding campus in Bridlington provides students with the space to work in fantastic studio facilities, “We believe the demand for multi-skilled, creative and flexible individuals within this area of design has never been more crucial, with product innovation, development and project management, our students are provided with a breadth of practical, intellectual and transferable skills required to succeed in the fashion industry.”
The college aims to create confident and specialised fashion design graduates with clear individual identity, who are prepared for employment, self-employment and postgraduate study. They are encouraged to challenge the notions of the design process, and critically consider where this crazy world of fashion will be in a few short years time. Whether students are completely new to the industry or have studied the industry before and want take their skillset to the next level, East Riding College provides the opportunity to develop students’ understanding for digital design, experimental pattern cutting and garment production.
